KIRSTIE GETS LUNGS

Just to let you know after a very tough time yesterday, we left the hospital at 8pm, knowing that time was running out. Although Kirstie had done her best trying to breath for herself, she was getting more and more tired. we left for home and about an hour and a half later i recieved a call from Harefield saying there was a possiblilty lungs were available. Stuart and i arrived back at the hospital soon after to talk to the surgeron it was looking good but we had to wait for all the tests to come back, they all came back good, but we still would,nt know until they had been checked, at 7.40am we were told yes! they were good !!!!
Kirstie was taken to theatre soon after to be put on by-pass till the lungs arrive. They hope to carry out the transplant between 10am and 12pm then it will take about 4-6 hours.
Kirstie does'nt know she is having her new lungs yet as she has been sedated since yesterday ! hoping all goes well, and she will wake up find out she got what she has fought so long and hard for.
Our thoughts also go to the donors family, without them giving there permission Kirstie would'nt be getting her second chance. I know my daughter will always be grateful and will continue her charity work to make people aware of organ donation, and how it can change someones life.
Hoping to give everyone the good news soon.

  14. Janet from Spain, I am so thrilled everything is crossed for you. Having given our own daughter's organs when she died five years ago like you I am thinking of the parents of the young girl who died. Now and for the forseeable future they will be grieving for their daughter but as time goes on they will be so proud of what they did. At the time decisions need to be made your mind is really elsewhere but you just have a feeling of what is the right thing to do. Let's hope through Kirstie's campaign more people in the future will do the right thing. Love to you all xxxx

  23. I don't know Kirstie. I have nothing to do with her, I've never met her, I don't have any life-threatening illness (thank god) which might help me relate to the struggle she faces. But this is honestly the best news I've heard all year! Simply from reading her blog I have been granted a very welcome window into her life and she seems like a beautiful, optimistic, strong, wonderful person and the most deserving of those lungs! I hope everything goes as well as it possibly could! Much love! xxxxxx

  30. So pleased to hear that Kirstie has been given this 2nd chance at life. She is a truly remarkable young lady and I feel very honoured to have spent the last few years nursing her through some very difficult times. She's not just one of my patients, I consider her (and Stuart) good friends. She will cherish this amazing gift and will become another fantastic ambassador for organ donation and the joy it can bring.
Special thanks to Linda and Kerrie for all the updates at what must be a very emotional and draining time! Also to Stuart, an amazing young man who will now be able to enjoy spending time with his beautiful, courageous wife as they build many memories as they embark on married life together without the stress of waiting for this call.
Love and hugs to you all and love and prayers to the donors family for this truly wonderful gift.

  39. My wife and I have known Kirstie and her family since she was born and followed her courageuos fight against the debilitating disease and other complications.Never have I known her to give up and accept second best. This weekend she proved her strength and courage again-supported by the strength and love of her mother, husband, friends and family she beat the odds and fought long and hard to be ready to receive the lungs she so richly deserves. We are proud to know her and look forward to many years of being nagged and cajoled into helping her promote the cause of organ donation.Despite our joy at her transplant we must take a while to think and send our heartfelt thanks to the family of the donor who must be suffering at this time but, we hope, take some consolation for the wonderful gifts their loved one has given to at least one other sufferer.
And for you Kirstie- when you read this soon-we were with you every step of the way and next year, have bike -will ride!
Keep fighting girl, we know you'll come through.
    Love Roger and Ann.xx
