While I was in harefield yesterday for my year review, My friend Kim who goes to my cf centre and lives in devon, finally received her call. Things were getting worse for Kim and she had had her 6month review the day before, where they had said she was now desperate and would need to go on the urgent board, she travelled all the way home to be called back the next morning.
Being there waiting to know if the transplant was going to go ahead was so nerve racking but I'm so glad I got to see her briefly before and tell her she was going to be just fine, the next second I was walking back down the corridor and she was gone, it was a go.
he husband was down stairs, looking very nervous and excited wrapped in one. Who wouldn't be, I could never do what he and my husband had to go, sit and wait as the one you love deteriorated, watch them get sicker and sicker by the day and then send them off into theatre and wait not knowing whats happening. Its times like these when I really think what brave men they are and how grateful I am to have my husband and how happy I am the my Friend Kim has someone as special to guide and protect her. I went down and chatted to him, gave him a hug, we were both smiling with nervous excitement.
Since Kim has been woken today already, she is off her ventilator, a huge step, breathing on her own with 02 and yes talking, undoubtedly she is extremely tired and has a huge recovery to make, but hopefully the start of a smooth and quick won. Please keep Kim in your thoughts and also please take a minute to think about the family out there that in there time of grief and sadness, gave a courageous decision to give life. Thank you for my friends life.
Me and Kim also got married near the same time, I always said to her, we would be two onld ladys in rocking chairs while our husbands run around for us, i can see that happening now.
I also just wanted to mention my other great friend who also goes to my CF centre, Neil, there have been the 3 of us all around the same level a year or so before my tx, we were all wondering who would need one first and that we would all be needing one around the same time, I just happened to nose dive, Neil is like a brother to me, I have known him for years since I was 9, its his birthday on Sunday, Neils also on the list and I'm hoping and praying that his call comes soon to, so we can have a new lungs celebration together. We all signed a contract to not go anywhere, I want that contract up held. :-)
There both in the slide I mad for the ball here's the link again.

DeleteWow! That is awesome news!!! What a gift it is that once someone passes away, they allow someone to live on, it's sorta like passing the baton at a relay race. God is good, I pray for you too and that you too have a long healthy life. You're such a beautiful inspiration :) please let Kimberly know people in the US are praying for her.
